My Evolution in Electronic Literacy
Ten years ago I did not have any idea about how to use e-mail and internet. That changed when one day my cousin Gaby helped me to open an e-mail account in order to be in contact with her, because she lives in Chicago. She gave me a brief explanation about the way I should use my “new e-mail account”. I was excited because I would be finally part of the world wide web, and that event was my introduction to the electronic environment.
Concerning my experience with electronic tools, it has been easy, fun, and productive. Now I am immersed in a technological world. Every day I tend to check my e-mail in order to be in contact with my family, friends or to check about any school issue. In addition, I have to use different kinds of electronic tools in order to do my academic work such as: blogs, word processors, and many more. Electronic literacy is becoming an essential knowledge in our days.
Nowadays, Technology and electronic tools have become an important aspect to improve my L2. The use of internet means an open door to the knowledge, if you know how to use it. For example, I had the experience of been participant in a language Exchange, that helped me with my listening and speaking skills, and moreover allowed me to meet new people and their culture. The most recent electronic tool that I am currently using is the blog, with this tool I can practice my writing and at the same time I can receive feedback from my classmates and teacher as well. Electronic technology becomes undoubtedly more advanced and more available for us as time passes.
Finally, I have some expectations about the use of electronic literacy as a future English Language Teacher. For me electronic tools represent new ways to design and prepare my class and equally give lots of options to my students to do their academic works. All of them represent a variety of opportunities for educational or professional purposes, such as: online courses, master degrees, workshops, keep in touch with others teachers who live abroad and so on. Technology and Electronic tools are expanding our educational objectives.
As a conclusion I can say that electronic technology has taken a very important part of education in our days and so students can have greater accessibility to a wide range of information. For me the use of electronic tools means an advantage for my educational and professional development. These resources have become a handy set of tools for everyone, so that is why you should take advantage of them!
